Membership


Everyone is working in regulation or interested in regulation is welcome to become a member of The Institute of Regulation.



Individual Members pay £48 a year, with discounts for students, the retired and those early in their career. Further concessionary discounts will apply for those who are unemployed, taking a career break or on long term sick leave. 

  • You can access the member-only pages of this website, including access to Special Interest Groups on a range of regulatory and other topics, and access to member-only networking and other events. The pages will provide specialist resources and materials on regulatory issues in addition to those on the main website.
  • Members automatically receive a regular email bulletin with regulatory news, events, podcasts and other publications and information.
  • We will also invite you to member-only training and development events, and other learning opportunities
  • As a member of the Institute of Regulation, you can also use the initials MIReg after your name.

We intend to provide additional benefits to members over time. Membership will be subject to our Terms & Conditions and Code of Conduct policies.



Corporate Members can be from the public or voluntary sectors, including regulators, government departments, local authorities, universities and colleagues, and pay annual fees of between £1000 and £10,000 a year. Commercial firms and private companies can become Affiliate Corporate Members

  • Networking with senior practitioners and academics in regulation, within the UK and internationally.
  • Invitations to senior stakeholder events, such as roundtables with experts.
  • Discounts on organisational training and development.
  • Free job placement on the Institute website and e-bulletin.
  • Free promotion of publications and consultations, offers to place articles or links in the Institute’s bulletin or newsletter, and options to sponsor events.
  • Invitations to present work to members at seminars.
  • Options to feed into policy development on regulatory issues.


The Institute of Regulation is transparent about the source of our funding. We will publish how many individual members we have (but not their names), and the names of our Corporate and Affiliate Corporate Members.
